“The Cape Legacy tour is one witch takes us on a journey through south african history and its legacy of struggle.”
Some of the highlights include a visit via ferry from the V and A waterfront to Robbin Island and a tour of the prison where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. We visit Nelson Mandela’s old cell on a tour through the prison and learn about the heroes of our struggle for freedom and what they endured while in exile.
We then visit the Malay quarter on the slopes of signal hill, known for its colourful cottages , picturesque cobble-streets and unique architecture known as the Bo Kaap. This is the historical centre of Cape Malay culture in Cape Town. The museum is a home dating back to the 1760s and is the oldest house in the area is still in its original form and well worth a visit. It highlights the cultural contribution made by early muslim settlers, many of whom were skilled tailors, carpenters, shoe makers and builders. It contains 19th century furnishings which include a fine Cape drop-leaf dining tables, Cape Regency-style chairs and a bridal chamber decorated to match the bride’s dress.
We visit the district 6 museum and then site of the famous district 6 , a former inner-city residential area in Cape town where over 60,000 of its inhabitants were forcibly removed during the 1970s by the apartheid regime.
We also visit the townships of cape town where residents were displaced and discuss the plans in place to redistribute land to the previously disadvantage people affected by apartheid in cape town.
