Witness the majestic Southern Right whales that return to the Cape each season to breed and calve. Peak season for whale watching in the Cape is usually between June and November. During this time, the vast majority of the remaining southern right whale population can be found along our coast (only about 3000 in the ocean!). Join us as we go in search of these majestic creatures on the famous Whale Route spanning along the coastline passing Gordon’s Bay, Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay en route to Hermanus.
We visit to the enchanting Fernkloof Nature Reserve, which spans 1550 hectares of mountain , coastal fynbos and wildlife as well as the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens.
We visit the world renowned Hamilton Russell Wine Estate producing some of the finest wines in the world and gain some insight on Hermanus’ viticulture.
Hermanus is without a doubt the best place for whale watching in the world.
The bay offers shelter from the ocean currents, drawing the whales into the calmer waters and a perfect vantage point to view them from. The towns whaling history is evident from all the whale relics , sculptures and paintings on display . Only in Hermanus would one find the last full time whale crier in the world, sounding his horn to alert watchers of whale activity.
